Anatomy and Physiology is a college preparatory and laboratory - oriented course that will provide students with the opportunity to observe anatomical structures and examine physiological systems. Acquiring, classifying, sequencing data, experiences in oral and written communication of data, and job and career explorations are skills that will be stressed in this course. Students in this course may choose to take courses in Health Science Technology.

ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY INFORMATION ~ 2011-2012
INSTRUCTOR: Matt Gore
TEXT: Human Anatomy and Physiology, Marieb, Elaine N., Benjamin/Cummings, Seventh Edition, 2003.
OBJECTIVE SHEET: At the beginning of each unit or chapter, the student will be given an objective sheet. This will list not only the objectives of the unit but will also include homework assignments and due dates, lab assignments and dates, and the test date; however, the dates are subject to change. The student will place the objective sheet in his/her binder to be used throughout the unit and for six-weeks and semester test reviews.
CHAPTER TESTS: These exams will primarily be objective with some discussion questions. Exams will be graded on a 100 point basis. Please notify me of your intent to make up the test.
RE-TESTS: Students can earn the right to retest during a seven-day period following the return of their test. The highest grade a student can receive on a retake is a 70. One tutorial is required before you are allowed to make up a test. Please be on time for the tutorial and make up. A test will not be administered if the student is late to the appointment. To retake a test students must do all of the following.
1. Have no unexcused absences or tardies. 2. Have no zeros on daily or lab grades for that six weeks. 3. Complete a 30 minute tutorial with me prior to taking the re-test.
LABORATORY: In order to have the student involved in hands-on activities and to make anatomy & physiology topics more relevant, there will be numerous labs to illustrate some concepts. A student will be assigned to a group consisting of 3 to 4 students. It will be necessary for the student to work as a team in order to learn communication skills and use class time efficiently. The labs may be graded in the following manner:
*participation *quizzes *equipment usage *other as designated by the teacher *data/report sheet
Lab procedure sheets and graded lab reports will be placed in the student’s 3-ring binder at the time they are returned. The lab papers will be used as references for quizzes and tests. Late labs will not be accepted.
Make-up labs: If the student is absent on lab day, he/she must make arrangements with the instructor to make-up the lab within 3 days. ANY STUDENT WHO FAILS TO MAKEUP A LAB WITHIN THE APPROPRIATE TIME WILL RECEIVE A ZERO FOR THE LAB GRADE. Labs must be made up quickly to prevent chemicals from going bad and to allow for quicker clean up of lab materials.
DAILY QUIZZES: Daily quizzes will consist of a few questions. The quiz may include material that has been discussed or assigned reading in the current unit or chapter. If the student is absent for a quiz, he/she must make arrangements with the instructor to make it up. Please understand, if the student is tardy, and misses the daily quiz, he/she will be penalized.
HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned on a daily basis as needed. THE ASSIGNMENT WILL BE DUE AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS ON THE DATE INDICATED UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED. If the student is absent on the due date, the work is due on the day he/she returns. The assignment will be reviewed in class and answers will be posted. KEEP UP WITH THE ASSIGNMENTS BY CHECKING YOUR OBJECTIVE SHEET!! All work is due on the assigned date or it is considered late. Once the work is corrected in class or handed back, the assignment cannot be turned in for a grade. No late assignments will be taken. NO SECOND CHANCE!
PROJECTS: During some six weeks, the student will do a project that will count as a test grade. More specific information will be given as dates are assigned.
ASSISTANCE & TUTORIALS: If the student needs help, he/she is encouraged to schedule tutorial time with Mr. Gore. I am here at school by 8:00 a.m. daily.
